What Is The Standard Of Kitchen Gadgets?
The kitchen is one of the most important areas in a home. It’s where we prepare our meals, store food, and clean up afterward. However, with all this work comes more chores.
We have to maintain the stovetop, oven, fridge, and freezer; keep on top of dishes piling up in the sink; sweep or mop the floor regularly; wash windows on occasion to see what’s going on outside of them! If you’re looking for some help with your kitchen tasks
The following are just some examples of helpful gadgets that can make life easier for people who really love cooking.
Do you know the standard of kitchen gadgets?
Kitchen gadgets that can be called kitchenware
- Utensils
- Knives, if you’re cooking, you’re going to be using a knife. …
- Even if you like to “eyeball” ingredients, it’s handy to have a set of measuring spoons around for the times you need precise measurements. …
- Measuring cup
- Wooden spoon
- Fish turner
- Peeler
- Whisk
- Tongs
This is the question that I asked myself before writing this article. After digging some articles, especially not-so-recent ones, I found out that there are many types of kitchen wares and for me, they all fall into two categories: one is cooking utensils and the other one is meals preparation tools.
I decided to consider only those utensils that are intended to be used during the act of preparing foods; hence, the cutting board falls into the cooking utensil category (it’s meant to hold food while you’re cutting it) but the grill does not (you’ll definitely need another surface like countertop or table). Also important point here – if any device allows the user to prepare meals, it must be included in this list; for example, a rice cooker is a food preparation tool but microwaves are not (though they can definitely help in some cases).
When we talk about cooking utensils, most people think about cutlery and obviously, there’s no surprise that knives and spoons fall into this category.
What is surprising though is that we know that even a frying pan or saucepan belongs to the same group.
Why?
The answer lies in the fact that these devices represent one of many ways how you can transfer energy from your muscles to food. With a knife, you add energy by cutting through food while with a frying pan – you do this by adding heat when putting it on the stovetop or gas burner.
Saucepan adds energy with heat as well, but there’s a crucial difference: the temperature inside the saucepan is maintained by the energy that comes from the gas burner and not your muscles.

Other cooking utensils represented in this category include tongs that you use to transfer food from one surface to another or a basting brush that helps you add some liquid on top of meat or veggies.
By far, these two devices don’t actually provide additional energy but make sure they assist you during some stage of preparing meals (transferring and applying liquids respectively).
You can even say that grilling grid or broiler pan does the same since it allows you to cook different types of foods at the same time; especially useful when we’re talking about oven: first thing first – the oven is definitely not a cooking utensil because you don’t add energy to food when putting it inside the oven.
Nevertheless, we can say that broiler pan and grilling grid represents an additional way to transfer heat into your meals: broiler pan – by transferring heat from the top heating element in the oven while grilling grid enables foods to come into contact with flames or hot coals.
Though we already mentioned that the rice cooker falls under the category of kitchenware, I still want to include it here since there are quite a few people who may not know about this device. As its name suggests, a rice cooker is used for preparing rice but many models come with other options like steaming food or keeping warm. In addition, some high-end models allow you to cook different types of meals like porridge or even cake.
And finally, let’s move on to kitchen tools.
Some people may actually think that there are many things that can be called kitchenware but it all depends on how you look at them.
It’s not a secret for anyone that food processors were initially introduced as a replacement for human arms and hands – this device makes it possible to finely chop veggies or meat without any effort from your side.
Though I don’t want to compare food processors with blenders, I have to say that these two devices do represent one category of kitchen tools: blenders are used for liquidizing food while food processors are designed specifically for chopping, dicing, shredding, and other manipulations with solid food. Also, food processors come with additional cutting disks that allow you to grate cheese or cut vegetables into thin slices.

One of the most important kitchen tools that we use every day is definitely a peeler and I’m sure many people wouldn’t be able to live without it.
Peeler allows you to take off the outer layer from veggies and fruits but if we look at it more closely, we can see that this device consists of: handle, blade, and screen (for displaying peeled food).
Furthermore, there are some models that have adjustable blades – those ones allow you to choose the thickness of sliced soft foods like tomato or zucchini. You may also find peelers with different types of blades like serrated ones designed specifically for peeling softer foods like vegetables or fruits.
Other tools that people use every day include a juicer, corkscrew, and can opener – these devices help you either extract juice from hard foods like fruit or add some air pressure to canned food so it becomes easier to open. As for other kitchenware items, there are many things that fall into this category but let’s focus on the three most important ones: broiler, grater, and strainer.
The first one is designed for transferring heat from the top heating element in the oven while the second device allows you to grate cheese or other solid food into thin strips. And finally, the third tool is a must-have item if you plan to prepare meals with boiling water since the strainer helps you separate solids from liquids by holding your strainer over a bowl.

What is the standard for kitchen end panels?
An end panel is around 18mm – 25mm wide and they are generally used at the end of kitchen runs, on wall units on either side of a kitchen extractor, at the side of tall units, and between integrated appliances
The standard kitchen end panel is the soffits that are installed at the junction between a wall and an island. Kitchen end panels help to mask the edge between a room and an isolated countertop. End panels can be made from a variety of materials including wood or laminates, but plywood is typically used because it’s non-combustible and easy to work with.
What are the types of kitchen end panels?
There are 3 different styles that you can choose from; plain, bullnose, or ogee. Each style will have a different look for your kitchen countertop because they have their own distinct features. The plain end panel is a common choice and is the most practical.
It’s a simple and affordable way to finish off your countertop without spending too much money. There are lots of designs to choose from, so you can still get the look that you want.
The bullnose end panel is another popular design option for contemporary kitchens.
The rounded edge provides a smooth transition between the countertop and the room. It’s a very simple solution that will give your kitchen countertop an attractive finish.
Lastly, you can also choose ogee end panels to complete your kitchen countertop design. Ogee is another popular design option because it gives your space an elegant look. They are often used in high-end kitchens, so they are the perfect way to elevate your style.

End panel designs are endless because there’s no limit to your creativity. You can find end panels that will match any style or look, so put some thought into it and you’ll be satisfied with the result. Also keep in mind that end panels come in different sizes, but most commonly they are 12″ to 18″ wide, 24″ to 36″ high, with ¾” or 1″ thickness.
End panels are the most important part of your kitchen countertop design because they conceal the junction between a wall and an island/countertop. Make sure that you take time to think about what type of end panel you want, otherwise, your kitchen countertop design will look unfinished.
You have to consider the different kitchen end panels styles because each one brings its own aesthetic benefits.
You can pick an end panel design that will complement the rest of your space, so put some thought into it and you’ll be satisfied with the result. Also keep in mind that end panels come in different sizes but most commonly they are 12″ to 18″ wide, 24″ to 36″ high with ¾” or 1″ thickness.

How do you replace kitchen cabinet end panels?
Sometimes it’s not necessary to replace the whole cabinet frame, especially if you are on a budget. Replacing end panels or doors is more cost-effective than purchasing new cabinets.
Kitchen cabinet end panels usually consist of two parts: the part that attaches to the cabinet (the face frame) and the inner panel (the door).
Once you take the panel(s) off, this is what you will see:
To replace or change out these panel parts, follow these steps. It’s easier to do it now than later. If you wait until things are installed they can be more difficult (and less fun) to remove and replace!
Remember, these instructions are for cabinet end panels. If you need to replace cabinet doors, please see this article. The same basic steps apply – only there is a slight difference in how you will handle the hinges – but it’s worth checking out
1) First, remove the panel from the door and set it aside.
2) Next, remove the screw that attaches the cabinet frame to the wall. If there is more than one screw holding it in place, be sure to remove all of them. The cabinet will now be held in place by its own weight and pressure on the wall.
3) Now pull out any shelves or drawers in the cabinet. If you have drawers, remove them from the frame completely.

4) Lay a blanket or dust sheet on your floor and have a helper hold the cabinet in place securely. Slide the cabinets away from the wall just enough to walk behind it and push it forward into its new location. On most occasions, you will move it forward about 12 inches. If you are replacing end panels with the exact same size, then there is no need to do any additional work with the wall or floor.
If your cabinet is an under-mount style you will have to keep it attached to its frame while moving it forward. You will lift up on the top of the cabinet to carry it forward and pull it away from the wall at the same time. This may take two people or a little ingenuity, but you can do it!
5) If you need to make changes to your cabinet frame (such as adding drywall anchors for additional support), now is the time. On most cabinets, there will be a stud on one of the side walls. Measure from your old cabinet end to the new stud and cut off that length of the board. You can then attach it back to your wall using drywall anchors or screws.
You will not be attaching this piece to a stud, so make sure you secure it well! If you have an adjustable shelf, you can replace it with a full-length (or shorter) piece of wood.
6) Now take your new door or end panel and make sure you have all the necessary hardware. Many times, they will come packaged in plastic bags with all the screws you need for assembly. Sometimes there are additional pieces that came on the old part that needs to be added to the new one.
7) Attach the face frame part of your end panel by screwing in either a single screw or two screws with a hinge plate at the top and bottom of each panel. Then, attach the hinges for your door onto this same piece, which is now attached to your cabinet frame. Remember to make sure the hinges are facing out towards the front of your cabinet.
8) Attach the inner part (the door) to the face frame by screwing it in, adding a handle and then clamping them together. The last step is to attach this piece back into place using that same drywall anchor or wall screw you removed earlier.
Many cabinets come with a simple round hole for this screw, but some will have a square one to accommodate different screws/anchors. That is the only difference.

9) Finally, go back and finish attaching all of the face frame pieces to your cabinet frame before screwing in the hardware for your shelves and drawers. It’s a good idea to lay a blanket or a towel on top of everything so nothing slides around while you work. Slide your shelves and drawers into place and secure them with either screws or dowels.
If you have a drawer that is hanging from a rail, be sure to attach it to the cabinet frame before placing it in your new location. This will keep it from sliding around when you move the rest of your cabinets.
10) Once everything is secured in place, you are free to move your cabinets back into position. If you upgraded to a taller cabinet, watch out for things above the cabinets like ceiling fans!
11) Fill in any holes or gaps with plaster/wood filler and sand down when dry. Use this opportunity to clean up any dust or debris in your wall that might have come loose from moving your cabinets.
12) Lastly, you can now take those extra pieces from the step and use them as a template to mark the hole in your floor for the new cabinet location. Confirm that everything looks good and cut out a nice clean circle or rectangular opening with a jigsaw.

Standard kitchen microwave dimension
The standard kitchen microwave dimensions are exactly half of the cubic feet, which is about 0.54-meter high x 0.76-meter deep x 0.47 meter wide (1.4 ft high x 1.5 ft deep x 1.4 ft wide).
Standard Microwave Installation Height Floor to Cabinet Top: 34-36 Inches Floor to Microwave Top: 36 Inches Minimum Clearance Around the Unit: 5 Inches
Standard Microwave Width 26-29 Inches Standard Microwave Oven Depth 17-19 Inches Standard Microwave Height 34-36 Inches
The first microwave oven was built in 1945 by Dr. Percy Spencer, an American self-taught engineer and inventor who owned a firm producing magnetrons for military radar systems at Raytheon (Spencer & Carroll 1990). One day, he was working with one of his magnetrons when he noticed that the candy bar in his pocket melted (see History). He discovered that microwaves can cook food quickly and conveniently.
Microwave ovens use microwave radiation to heat the water molecules in food, unlike convection ovens which heat up all parts of a product by transferring thermal energy from a flame or heating element. The electromagnetic spectrum is very complex and it cannot be described by a single diagram (Knovel 2000).
In fact, microwaves are generally classified as radio waves with frequencies ranging from 300 MHz to 300 GHz. The wavelength of the microwave used in household ovens ranges between 12.2 cm and 18.3 cm (Fahy & King 2002).
Therefore, it is important for users to know the standard kitchen microwave dimensions before buying one since the appliance requires a certain amount of space for proper air circulation. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has established a standard for the dimension of household microwave ovens.
What Is The Standard Of Kitchen Gadgets?
Microwave ovens are used to heat solid food materials, rather than cook them since microwaves only penetrate the surface layer of the food. There are three different types of electromagnetic waves that have been identified by physicists.
The most familiar of these is the visible spectrum that is perceived by our eyes. The second type, called infrared waves or heat radiation is what we feel on our skin when exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time. This may cause sunburns. The third, and least known one is microwave radiation (Knovel 2000).
Microwave radiation is classified as microwaves since it falls within the electromagnetic spectrum that ranges from 300 MHz to 300 GHz.
The wavelength of the microwave that heats food in microwave ovens ranges between 12.2 cm and 18.3 cm (Deiss 2000).
Microwaves are “energetic, short waves” that can produce heat when absorbed by food. This process is known as dielectric heating, and it works by increasing the polarity or alignment of water molecules in a substance (Deiss 2000).
In order for microwaves to penetrate food effectively, they should not be blocked by metal objects since this will prevent them from reaching their target. For optimal results, microwave ovens should use metal mesh in the door or small holes to allow microwaves to pass through (Deiss 2000).
Microwave radiation is experienced by humans on a daily basis. It can be found when listening to radio waves, when using mobile phones and wireless local area networks (WLANs), or even when standing near power lines (Knovel 2000). Compared to other types of waves, microwaves have very long wavelengths and they travel at the speed of light (Deiss 2000).
Microwave ovens operate within a frequency range of 2450 MHz up to 2500 MHz which falls into the category of radio waves.
The main frequency used in most household microwave ovens is 915 MHz (Deiss 2000). As mentioned earlier, microwaves are used to heat up food and not cook it. This is because microwaves cannot penetrate deep into the food; they only heat up the surface (Fahy & King 2002).
The depth of penetration depends on the composition and properties of the food (Deiss 2000). For example, water molecules absorb more microwave energy than sugar and salts do, thus water-based products such as soup tend to get hotter faster compared to other types of food.
Microwave ovens also vary in dimension. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has established a standard for household microwave ovens that specifies the size of a typical unit. The following are the standard dimensions of a household microwave oven in accordance with IEC 60950 (Fahy & King 2002):
- Width: 600 mm or 23.6 inches
- Height: 558 mm or 22 inches
- Depth: 272 mm or 10.7 inches
- Internal volume: 36 liters or 2.2 cubic feet
The standard dimension of a household microwave oven is 600 mm in width, 558 mm in height, 272 mm in depth, and 36 liters in internal volume. The dimensions are measurements that should be considered before buying one for your kitchen.

Standard kitchen mixer tap hole size
- 22mm
- Standard taps and spouts generally require a hole of at least 22mm in diameter. Monobloc mixer taps, taking both a hot and cold supply, most require a minimum 32mm diameter hole.
Standard kitchen mixer tap hole size.
The tap pip for the kitchen sink mixer is made to fit standard size (40mm) holes, this means other holes below 40mm should be considered as non-standard/special cases.
Hole sizes larger than standard can be fitted by using a plastic bib adapter attached below the cartridge which increases the size of the opening through the sink plug hole and may also re-route some of the water flow through that route instead of under the cartridge housing.
Kitchen Taps with smaller diameters than 40mm are rare but they do exist. Kitchen Taps with a smaller diameter will require different types of installation or workmanship. For example, you need to drill a new cill pipe hole for pipe feed to go up again so it reaches under the tap for the filter to be attached to. Or you may need to install a new cartridge or even a different type of mixer tap.
Kitchen Taps with non-standard / Special Holes can be fitted in two ways:
1) Hole enlargement by drilling – The hole will have to be enlarged into 40mm diameter by using a drill. You could use an electric hand drill or cordless battery-powered drill, depending on how good your site lines are and if the above-mentioned method might cut important pipes feeding the kitchen sink!
This is not recommended because it is difficult, time-consuming, quite messy work but it can be done after all! I would recommend getting assistance from a qualified plumber before doing this task yourself if you are not experienced in this type of work.
2) Plastic bib adapter and plastic spigot pipe
– Installing a tap without opening the sink plug hole is not advisable because it may decrease water flow and also the filter cartridge attached below isn’t very efficient unless you drill a hole to fit the filter tightly into that gap. So we suggest enlarging the cill pipe hole size (a hole that enters into a kitchen sink) to 40mm diameter using a drill.
If you don’t want to enlarge the cill pipe, another option would be using a wrap-around or attachable spigot to fill tap pip with standard size (40mm) which will make it easier to fit tap onto kitchen sink mixer without any risk of getting incomplete water flow or filter not being fitted properly.
What Is The Standard Of Kitchen Gadgets?
Kitchen Taps with non-standard / Special Holes in typical installations are shown below in pictures:
If you have a kitchen tap with special screeded holes, please let us know by leaving a comment on this article. We will then discuss the solution that can be applied to fit that particular type of tap into a typical installation scenario.
Please note that most special screeded holes are irregular shapes which makes it difficult to find a spigot adapter with the same form factor for kitchen taps.
This means you may need to purchase a wrap-around or attachable plastic pipe instead, they are usually cheaper than buying an adapter for each tap.
Note:
When buying Kitchen Taps, if you see two cartridges set in the cartridge housing similar to the picture below, this setup is typically where one is the hot word and another one cold water.
Please check carefully before purchasing because this will require more work in installation in order to have all water supply feeds in place for both hot and cold functionality in your kitchen sink mixer tap.
What Is The Standard Of Kitchen Gadgets?
Kitchen Taps with two cartridges can either be fitted as separate taps or as single dual-use taps (providing both cold and hot water) depending on how the cartridge housings are attached to the mixer. You may need to drill new holes in some cases to accommodate pipework feeds for hot and cold supplies.
If you don’t want to drill new holes, we suggest getting a plastic wrap around the spigot pipe instead because it’s easier than drilling and you will save money compared to buying an adapter for every tap!
