10x12ft. That’s an awfully small shed… The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) recommends at least 10 square feet per chicken in a coop, so this might be too small to be functional as a chicken coop or other animal shelter.
If you’re going to raise rabbits or other similar animals, then it would probably work fine as a shelter.

To add or not to add?
Before investing in addition, consider the benefit you get from an extra room before and after you sell your home.
More space and a higher selling price may be attractive, but unless you’re adding a bathroom, kitchen, or bedroom (the main reasons buyers want more space), that value probably won’t offset the cost of construction.

4. Is a 4/12 roof pitch good?
The answer is that it has been good for decades. In the 1920s, a standard roof pitch was 4/12 because of naturally heavy rainfall and lack of proper drainage systems throughout cities’ infrastructure. A sloped 4/12 roof sheds water away from the foundation much more easily than a flat or low-pitched roof could have.
So why does Minneapolis allow builders to construct roofs as low as 3/12? It’s because a lower pitch allows for larger spans in trusses and rafters, saving time and money on construction costs. The effect is similar to the difference between I-beam framing and balloon framing. Both can carry shear loads, but one is stronger than the other in bending moments (i.e., trusses vs. rafters).
The fact of the matter is, according to industry standards, a 4/12 roof pitch has provided ample protection for one’s home and foundation throughout its 100-year history.
So why change it?
There are valid reasons why some builders might want to lower their roof pitches: speed of construction, cheaper medium density insulation (MDI) costs, increased storage space in attics, etc.

Minneapolis’ zoning code allows for buildings up to four stories tall. A three-story home with a 4/12 pitch has good snow shedding characteristics at its upper level while retaining the strength needed throughout its framing system. A lower-pitched roof will require more closely spaced rafters that are capable of supporting twice the dead load. As homes get taller, higher roof pitches are needed to retain the simplicity of their construction.

5. What is the size of a tandem garage?
When we talk about the size of a garage, we usually mean either: (1) Width and Length; or (2) Area.
The width and length will give you the number of parking spaces for vehicles. This is useful if you want to know how many cars/motorcycles/scooters can park in your garage space. However, it does not measure floor area as such. That’s why we look at the area as well.
Tandem garages take up more room than single garages but less than double car garages – this is because they have two lanes – one running behind the other – with just enough room left between them for one car to park next to each other. So their dimensions are wider and longer than a single garage and less than a double garage.
A typical tandem garage is 6 metres wide by 3.5m-4m long (20ft x 11ft – 13ft). So it’s not much smaller than a standard car parking space, which is typically 9 meters (30 feet) wide. But the length of the parking lane is usually shorter than in a car park; when you add up the widths of both lanes, they don’t take up as much room in total as two parallel lanes in a standard car park.

Tandem garage doors are often taller too – so they can take high vehicles, which wouldn’t fit under a single door.
A double garage is typically 3 x 6 meters (10 x 20ft) or bigger.
When you are measuring your rooms or floor areas for tiling, you need to know the room’s ceiling height as well as its length and width. That way you can identify what size of tiles to buy – don’t forget that some tiles are deeper than others, so you’ll need more of them if your ceilings are lower; see our article on the different types of tile available.

6. What is a 3 car tandem garage?
A 3 car tandem garage allows you to park 3 cars on the same property in one single parking space. The underground parking space is accessed via a driveway that leads up to an entrance door of the home. This gives you full access to your garage, with no necessity to exit into the street or common areas of your apartment block.
Tandem garages are also known as triple garages or three-car garages, due to the fact that they allow up to 3 cars (tandem) parked side by side in one single bay. A mini-house can be built above this garage, allowing further access from inside your home if required. 8. What is a speed ramp in a parking garage?
A new study by HLDI indicates that speed ramps in parking garages are among the most dangerous traffic features on any road.
Speed ramps, sometimes called speed bumps or uneven pavement markers, are raised areas extending across a lane to slow drivers and make them pay attention. Unfortunately for motorists, they can also cause crashes and death.
Researchers at HLDI analyzed police reports of crashes in parking garages from January 2007 through December 2011. They found that 14 percent of all crashes in parking garages were rear-ended collisions — nearly triple the proportion expected based on the frequency of such crashes on other types of roads.
Crashes resulting from cars running into progressively higher ridges created by speed ramps accounted for percent of all garage crashes, compared with percent of crashes on other road types.
The proportion for speed ramps in parking garages was almost 3.5 times the expected amount, while the corresponding figure for speed humps on other roads is less than 1.4 times what would be expected.
Speed ramp and speed hump crashes had more severe consequences: Injury claims were twice as likely to result in insured motorists’ being significantly injured or killed compared with other types of urban roadways.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funded this study because speed ramps have long been known in other countries to be risky for motorcyclists, but the problem hadn’t really been studied here until now.
HLDI says motorcycles were involved in 13 percent of all crashes in parking garages with speed ramps; however, that figure is based on a small number of claims (13) because it’s not possible to tell whether motorcycles were involved by looking at crash reports alone.
Some crashes that include motorcycles aren’t reported to insurance companies, and the vehicles involved in others may not be identified.
More than 9 percent of all crashes in parking garages were rear-enders, compared with just 5 percent of all crashes on other road types.
Researchers estimate that if speed ramps were removed from parking garages, about half of those crashes would never have happened.
Over time this would save more than $20 million in vehicle damage and medical bills for these innocent motorists who get hit from behind.
Speed ramps gained popularity in the U.S. after World War II because they had been used successfully overseas — particularly in Japan — to slow traffic and make pedestrians more visible while crossing roads at intersections or while exiting or entering buildings and parked cars.
Despite that endorsement, speed ramps are not the only solution to improving safety. Other measures may work just as well or better at a lower cost.
For example, rumble strips can alert motorists when they stray from their lane without significantly increasing stopping distances. Road markings are another alternative.

9. How big is a standard garage bay?
Garage bay size is standard at 7 feet wide by 16 feet long.
This translates to 56 square feet of floor space and a height clearance of 8-9 feet depending on the type of garage door opener installed. If you own a home with a one or two-car garage and your driveway is shaded from morning sun until about mid-afternoon, it may make sense to leave the door open on sunny days to help keep your garage slightly warmer than the outside air temperature.
In most cases, leaving the garage door closed is more energy efficient. In warmer weather when it becomes too hot inside a closed-up garage, you may want to consider adding an automated window opener so they can be easily opened from inside your home via a push button on a wall-mounted remote control.

Adding windows to a standard residential garage requires cutting into the exterior walls or roof of your home and is not something that just anyone should attempt without proper building experience and permits issued by local government officials.
Newer manufactured homes often have pre-cut openings for overhead garage doors where windows can be installed in place of solid panels with removable pins located at each corner for easy removal when adding new windows or putting up replacement panels.

19. What is a DC garage door opener?
DC (direct current) powered units are currently being used on many homes built today without basements due to their low cost and overall lower noise levels when compared to traditional AC-driven screw drives.
These openers require more horsepower than belt or chain drives so homeowners can expect them to last anywhere between 10 and 15 years before needing any repairs made.
They are usually driven by either standard 12-volt or high-efficiency 24-volt motors that can be connected with most modern home automation systems through the use of ZigBee wireless modules.

20. How thick does garage concrete need to be?
To answer this, you first need to understand “pour coverage.”
Pour coverage is how much concrete you pour compared to the size of the garage.
The more concrete you put down, the thicker your garage floor will be.
Here are some of our most popular pour sizes:
1- CAR GARAGE (20×30) – 4 in. on center (oc) x 2 in. total = 8 in. thick (*the industry standard for residential garages*)
2- CAR GARAGE (20×30) – 6 in. oc x 3 in. total = 18 in. thick

When a concrete garage floor is poured, there are several factors that affect the final thickness including:
- Concrete mix design and moisture content – When weighing out ingredients for a pour, the water-to-cement ratio will impact your thickness requirements. The more water you add to a given amount of cement, the thinner your final product will be. In general terms concrete with a 1:2 ratio will give you good strength and durability with one inch of coverage so most residential garages use this mix design.
- The tilt of slab – As the tilt angle increases toward vertical, so does your final slab thickness.
- Post tension vs traditionally poured – If the garage is being poured in a post-tension configuration, your thickness requirements will need to be increased.
- Garage size – The bigger the garage the thicker the floor slab will need to be.
In general, most garages are going to have 4″ oc x 2″ thickness, but it really depends on what you want for your garage flooring and how much money you want to spend on materials. In many cases, a quality sealant over a 1:2 mixture is perfectly acceptable when considering an alternative from poured concrete or when spending less money is important.

21. What is standard garage Kaufen?
You will see the word standard garage more and more often. This is one of the most recent niche markets that was established on German eBay.
A few years ago, it wasn’t there at all. It started with just a few garage owners who wanted to sell their stuff online somehow.
At first, they had some problems because they didn’t know exactly how to do it without wasting time and effort on things that wouldn’t work anyway.
So if you want your garage items to sell well nowadays, you’ll need some help too.
You can use this article as an example of how everything works out in practice (and no – I’m not making any money by promoting this service). Some people call them storage auctions but the term isn’t very specific.
It’s about selling anything that you can store, which is usually not limited to cars because garages aren’t like storage spaces (although some people do sell these too).
How does it work?
The whole thing works pretty much like eBay in its traditional form. You choose an item that you want to sell, set a starting price and then let everyone bid for it (at least if the website allows bidding…). The only difference here is that almost everything is sold in person.
Or at least you don’t see any shipping costs listed when placing your bids.
That’s why the whole process of buying and selling items is usually much more fun than with traditional auctions.
You might even reach prices that you wouldn’t be able to get at a classic auction house or on eBay’s German site.

24. How do the items sell so cheap?
When you look closer at it, all those things can be bought for super low prices because they will only be sold once (you won’t find any second-hand stuff there).
The reason why standard garages started in Germany isn’t exactly known but we think it has something to do with our high real estate prices. It’s simply more profitable to use your garage as a storage room than to rent it out.
And that’s why you can find some very unusual stuff in these auctions (and even brand new stuff). One of the most interesting things about all this is that the whole process works without middlemen.
So instead of selling your car for 10 000 Euros, you might get 15 000 Euros at one of the auctions. Besides, there are no fees or commissions so everything is pretty much risk-free for both parties.
If you want to sell any kind of item including cars and bikes, you should definitely look into standard garages because they may help you earn extra money while clearing up some space in your backyard.
Just keep in mind that there are a few drawbacks as well. For example, you won’t be able to sell anything from your garage if it’s located in another area.
In this case, I recommend using eBay as the audience is bigger and the service charge is valid for an entire month instead of just one item. You can also try out standard garages if you have some spare time because you might reach much higher prices than with regular auctions.
However, keep in mind that this isn’t a 100% safe method either – many people don’t even know what a standard garage is and they only wonder why their items don’t sell after a week or two

Often times they can be much longer than the door itself — to the point where one could say it actually extends further than the driveway itself!
The purpose of an apron is to seal gaps caused by uneven concrete and prevent water from leaking into your home. They’re easy to install and will provide you with years of service.
Garage aprons come in 2′, 2-1/2′, 3′ and 4′ widths and lengths up to 300 feet long.

How thick should a garage apron be?
This has to be one of the most common questions we receive at Durable Construction Services.
It is also one of the most difficult to answer because there are so many variables.
There may even be more than one right answer depending on your needs and goals.
A garage apron can serve several purposes, so it’s important that you know what you need before spending money on this feature.
First, let’s discuss what an apron is.
An apron is essentially the base of your garage, beneath where you park your car(s).
The standard width in new construction is 20″ wide by 8′ long (or 8 square feet) but 30″ by 10′ are becoming more popular among homeowners who have two cars or SUVs. For reference, our aprons are 24″ by 12′.
These larger aprons offer more than double the parking space for each car, while only increasing the amount of concrete needed by about 20%.
Why do I need an apron?
A garage apron serves several purposes including protecting the structural components of your home, protecting your driveway and/or sidewalk, offering you additional parking area (which increases property value), and it makes cleaning snow off your vehicles much easier (which results in fewer accidents).
There are other benefits but these are some of the most common reasons homeowners choose to include an apron with their new or existing structure.
What is my primary goal? Establish an efficient way to clean snow from your driveway and/or sidewalks.
If this is your primary goal, you might want to consider adding a decorative concrete curb or thick masonry wall around the perimeter of your apron.
This will keep snow on top of concrete rather than pushing it up onto asphalt shingles, which makes for a less troublesome cleanup process.
It also offers more protection from water seeping up into foundation walls which can cause damage to both structure and contents within the home.
Conclusion
When considering the size of a particular property, it is important to consider what type of vehicle(s) will be parked in the garage. If you have more than one car and intend on keeping both inside your garage at any given time, you would need to ensure that there is enough room for them side-by-side.
For those who only own one or two cars but still want some storage space, we recommend opting for a single-wide version instead. These can typically fit anywhere from 2-3 vehicles depending on their make and size as well as how much extra storage they provide within themselves.
